Cephalexin Capsules for Dogs and Cats

Generic Cephalexin is a semisynthetic cephalosporin antibiotic designed to treat a wide range of infections caused by both gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria. This acid-stable medication can be administered with or without food and is rapidly absorbed after oral administration. It is commonly used to treat infections of the skin, urinary tract, respiratory system, and bones and joints in pets.

Indications: Generic Cephalexin Capsules are effective against infections caused by susceptible bacteria, including:

• Otitis media (ear infections) due to Streptococcus pneumoniae, Haemophilus influenzae, Staphylococcus aureus, Streptococcus pyogenes, and Moraxella catarrhalis.
• Skin and skin structure infections caused by Staphylococcus aureus and/or Streptococcus pyogenes.
• Bone infections caused by Staphylococcus aureus and/or Proteus mirabilis.
• Genitourinary tract infections (including acute prostatitis) caused by E. coli, Proteus mirabilis, and Klebsiella pneumoniae.

Important Note: Cephalexin is not effective against methicillin-resistant staphylococci (MRSA) or most strains of enterococci (Enterococcus faecalis). It also has limited activity against Enterobacter species, Morganella morganii, Proteus vulgaris, Pseudomonas spp., and Acinetobacter calcoaceticus. Penicillin-resistant Streptococcus pneumoniae may also show cross-resistance to cephalosporins.
