Heartgard® Plus Chewables for Dogs – Heartworm & Intestinal Parasite Protection

Heartgard® Plus is a trusted monthly preventative that protects dogs against heartworm disease and treats and controls common intestinal parasites, including ascarids (Toxocara canis, Toxascaris leonine) and hookworms (Ancylostoma caninum, Uncinaria stenocephala, Ancylostoma braziliense).

• Prevents heartworm disease by eliminating heartworm larvae (Dirofilaria immitis) for 30 days after infection.

Dosage & Administration:

• Frequency: Administer once a month, ideally on the same date, year-round.
• Weight Range:
  • Dogs up to 25 lb
  • Dogs 26–50 lb
  • Dogs 51–100 lb
  • For dogs over 100 lb, combine appropriate doses.
• Age Requirement: Safe for dogs aged 6 weeks and older.

Important Notes:

• Begin treatment within 30 days of the dog’s first exposure to mosquitoes.
• Continue dosing through the end of mosquito season and give the final dose within 30 days of the last mosquito exposure.
• If switching from another heartworm preventative, start Heartgard® Plus within 30 days of the last dose of the previous medication.

Precautions:

• All dogs should be tested for existing heartworm infections before starting Heartgard® Plus. This product is not effective against adult heartworms (D. immitis).
• Dogs with circulating microfilariae may experience mild hypersensitivity reactions, such as transient diarrhea, due to the effects of Ivermectin.

Storage Instructions:

• Protect from light and store at a controlled room temperature (68°–77°F).
• Short-term temperature excursions between 59°–86°F are acceptable.
